Recently there have been several articles written on the best foods for fertility. Well what about soy? There is a lot of controversy surrounding this food.I know there are a lot of people that think soy is a healthy alternative but now after the following study, I am convinced that soy is not the perfect health food and definitely not the right choice when you are trying to improve fertility. In an article from BBC news titled Eating Soy Can Decrease Your Fertility the author discussed the potential problems with soy on both male sperm and with females.Due to the significant controversy over soy, my suggestion is to avoid unfermented soy completely. Fermented soy however such as natto, miso, tempeh and most soy sauces (if you can tolerate gluten) don't seem to have the same effect on fertility. Its possible that thru the process of fermentation that the component of unfermented soy that could effect fertility is no longer active in this way. There are plenty sources of protein that will support your health and could therefore improve your fertility. If you are looking for a source of protein to replace soy, yogurt is a source of protein and contains acidophilus for your digestion. Lentils are also an excellent source of protein. Buckwheat is also a good source of protein. If you eat Fish this can also a good source of protein but smaller fish should be consumed to avoid excess mercury exposure. If you eat meat, stick to grass fed beef and free range meats and eggs as well as any hormone free meat. Organic is preferable when you can get it.Nuts are a source of protein and nuts have the good fats that are healthy for you.So in summary, I would suggest to drop the unfermented soy from your diet to optimize your fertility.
